Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Who else passed the 2021 PIP? I did. And if you did, what are your next steps? Anyone thinking if staying long term? I am still interviewing.

Id--t. Should have took the PIL, man. All the smart folks have already gone.

OP here, thanks for the responses. I plan to just stick around until I get a "better" job. Going through the process, I could see why most choose the PIL and just walk away. It was quite demeaning and also mentally and physically draining. Like someone on here said, I probably survived only due to the high attrition anyway. Oh well!

@OP Bravo! Know this - your passing PIP is just a stroke of "luck" given the current state of attrition. It's not that EM appreciates your skills/experience/contribution. Otherwise, you wouldn't be PIP'd in the first place. Best luck!

Indelibly marked forever. No matter the cause.
Time to move on.
Feel honored to be given long-term notice.

Not sure we know what PIP means. This is new to EM. In the old times, that would have been the kiss of death. But I don’t know these days. In a few years 25% of the people would have been PIPED. So we will run out of employees that are neither HIPOs nor formerly PIPed.
Besides, if you were PIPed you likely had no stellar career ahead of you anyway. In other words, HIPOs are never PIPED.
It is not that the PIP destroyed your career prospects. At least now you know not to trust them.

Happy for you! You have some breathing room to look for a better job now. The PiP negatively affects your career prospects at XOM. You won’t get the best assignments and your raises will be lower than your peers. You have til next summer to find something good. Best of luck!

When you are put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), you need to know that your future career in our corporation will be limited whether you pass the PIP or not. It is a program that is intended to tell you that you are very close to being fired.

First of all, congrats on passing! It’s a huge stressor and it’s great you’re able to work through it. Unfortunately agree with another comment here that PIP will color how they consider your next role. Your decision may also depend whether you are early/late career and how you enjoy the other aspects of the company. It should be a holistic decision whether you want to stay or keep interviewing.

Was PIP’d after moving teams. I was verbally told I would pass but had already accepted another job offer. Didn’t appreciate being threatened with being let go after the same performance that had in the middle for years prior. I’m sure there were others that were in the same position just to make sure the company met its target numbers.

Hate to say it, OP, but a PIP, even if you survived, is a permanent stain to your career in "The Corporation". It may be livable while you work with the same manager or supervisor, but once someone new shows up, they will notice that stain in your past and you'll be on the spotlight. Keep interviewing. By the way, never stop interviewing, no matter what.
