I keep checking the status of my job applications and they just read "interview ". No other updates. I have only had one interview and it doesn't tell me whether I am advancing or not.

Ignore the public disclosures about headcount growing and recruiter BS about tons of people joining.
the harsh reality is that very very little hiring is going on, certainly not in the NYC area. they are going through some motions, but not actually extending many offers. there's just too much macro uncertainty right now.
when current employees depart, they are making other existing employees pick up the slack

Good luck. That's all I can say. I have applied and interviewed with 12 people. The position was a mid management. For months it said interview then the job just d-i-s-a-p-p-e-a-r-e-d...........
