Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Since GF doesn’t pay me fair wage, I couldn’t even afford shares

I have to live here for family. My college buddies are over at Samsung and Intel with the same experience… making a bit more than I do.

But I live paycheck to paycheck.

Must be nice for you selfish people fighting here to call us losers when I couldn’t even afford a couple shares of GFS during the period it was offered.

And that’s why this company sucks.

If you’re poor, you just stay poor.

Game of life has always been slanted.

@3iaw & @3uno are the most pragmatic answers for people who keep whining here.

A 5k Xmas bonus would be great but we all know that would never happen.
Enjoy the Oil gift basket or the Deathwish coffee bags.
You would think a visa with $100/ employee would work, but apparently that is too much too.
Those bonuses went to lawyers.

If you're in a position where you are working full time and are still struggling financially , then you have the power to change that. Go back to school, learn a skilled trade or profession and look elsewhere for work.

1-Global has tuition reimbursemnt, use it!
2-There is virtually unlimited Overtime available right now, work it!
3

  • Change your spending habits, live within your means and save.

trust me, GF's issues run deeper than money/wages. You'll reach a point where you're making enough to cover your bills, leisure, investments etc. and still have surplus, but still dislike your job or the company you work for.

as I've gotten older these things started to matter more:

  • perks and benefits
  • work-life balance
  • boss/manager
  • decision making/path of company

"after review of the financials..." - it's simply a matter of priorities to whom they pay and how much!
If they can afford to pay McKinsey 3-year retainer of $75M for their wise advises about our pay raises, then they can afford paying $5K X-mas bonus to every employee.

It's not mid level management. It's upper management.
Quite honestly after review of the financials it makes sense they simply can't afford to pay what others are. Until they do it will continue to be a revolving door.

I left recently too over a couple bucks an hour difference.

If they would have given decent raises people would stay. Now as we enter winter no one will want to Upstate NY.

Wish you best of luck.

Get a part time job like UBER to help the budget.

What I heard is that some modules have people resign every week. There is no way to retain people and senior managers has no time to care about it because they are more care about IPO. I spend 10 hours a day to work and take most of the projects but company don’t willing to raise. The reason they give me is “you pay is too high”. Even though I was hired as new fresh graduate student at that moment and in the past 5 years my total raise is 3500 dollars. In contrast, most of the people who work two years here raise already higher than me. I don’t think people who get raise are not deserve because they are also working hard, but why I can’t get raise, after my spouse lose her job last year due to the COVID, my family financial getting worse and worse. Turn out I have to looking now because I have to. Cannot afford the cost of living now. Good luck to the person who is also looking for the new job.

Take a look at CNSE on the Albany u campus. They have better and benefits. GF management lacks a basic understanding of what it takes to retain high performance employees.
