Recall of the Week(end): Ford Escape Hybrid

Volume low, there will be more vehicles identified. That’s how we roll, unless battery fails.

Ford Motor Company is recalling two 2021 Ford Escape hybrid units in Canada over a high-voltage battery failure issue. This comes after Ford conducted a similar recall in the U.S. for the same issue.

The defect: in the affected vehicle, the high voltage battery may shut down, causing the electric motor and engine to turn off.

The hazards: if the high-voltage battery shuts down, there could be a loss of power to the wheels, which could increase the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Components: high-voltage battery pack.

Affected vehicles: 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid.

Number of vehicles affected: two vehicles.

The fix: a dealer will replace the high-voltage battery.

So the key to a successful EV portfolio is having a reliable power delivery system to operate the vehicle. This is a critical failure at the heart of Ford's EV vision. Started in US, moved to Canada, and the number of vehicles impacted will grow. Anyone else feel like Ford is using consumers to be their "canaries in the cage" to identify potentially serious issues on the road. McGyver engineering, pre-mature launch, and dangerous performance all to grab a Freep headline.
