Instead of getting more job security the more time we spend here - considering the extra experience and know-how we accumulate - it's our chance of being laid off that increases. What other company can't wait to get rid of employees who know the processes the best? I can't think of any. It's ridiculous, but that's where we are.
Practically every company that runs into financial troubles does this. If they started with the newer folks, they'd have to lay off twice as many. Not ideal, but it's a survival move.
