Enbridge announce they were centralizing the clerks and coordinators to the TOC in early 2022. Very sad for many people in the regions. They have been outsourcing unionize LEG Field Rep work to an outside contractor. They claim it’s to help with the extra workload but they have been at a stand still for filling empty positions for months now. Is there more going on here that we are aware of? Is there a big announcement coming? Any packages in the near future?

Those field rep jobs are being outsourced because the only factor in determining the "successful applicant" was seniority, regardless of whether or not the applicant had any qualifications for the job. Combine that with the fact that it is the highest paying union job means at times they had to give the job to people who would never be good at the job no matter how much training you give them. Seniority should be a factor but not the only factor when finding the right person for the CCFR position. In my opinion the only "seniority years" that should count when applying for the CCFR position are the years you put into that department (sales and attachment) and not your entire time at the company working in other areas. If there is no union person that has ever worked in the department applying the company should be allowed to hire from the outside into the CCFR position. They should have to start as a clerk or coordinator and do some time before graduating to the CCFR role.
It's the union not thinking progressively and shooting themselves in the foot. The union is it's own worst enemy at times.
I was there when they centralized the control centres in 1999. My goodness was the resistance stiff.
Centralization is a normal process in every facet of nearly every industry. It always comes at the cost of distributed work... but c'est la vie.
The plan is to do the work as cheap as possible, and cut corners while doing it.
