Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Don't make it worse for people

I keep reading posts where people state that those laid off are the lucky ones. Please stop that. I understand that you're unhappy, but people who lost their livelihoods in the last round are certainly not lucky. I know several people who are petrified about their future. It's not so easy for some to find a new job, especially at a certain age. Yes, this company is awful and it treats its employees badly. However, it was still the only source of income for many and that source is now gone. Severance doesn't last forever. Please have some understanding.

Remember that you are just a number on a spreadsheet to executives. For too long they have hoarded the success of your labor from you and then act surprised when people are disgruntled. Maybe it's time for everyone under senior level to quit. Let those guys figure out how to run the stores understaffed for once.

Being laid off sucks. It’s the company saying we don’t value what you contributed over your time here and there’s no notice, no goodbye. The job search sucks. It’s demoralizing and hard on ones self esteem. Life after Staples can be better but not a guarantee.

I agree too, especially if you are an older worker. Sure you young people can find another job but it’s not easy for the older folks. When I was let go it was hard on my family. We got 2 days to figure out our benefits and when you are the one carrying the benefits for the family it puts you in a difficult situation. And don’t say….oh you get Cobra. Yeah at $1700 a month! That’s really feasible when you just lost your job! Understanding would be nice because getting laid literally sucks!

I agree I was let go and would have worked for the company until I retired. If you are still employed and unhappy find another job at another company. Another reason Staples continues to restructure. Associates taking a paycheck that don’t want to be there and I guarantee not earning that paycheck while there. Unhappy associates do not work at the potential of a Happy associate. If you are unhappy pursue something else and stop complaining it’s cruel to those that worked hard and were let go
