Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

"5G is a failure"

I hear this all the time from my colleagues. I only agree somewhat. I still haven't heard enough arguments as to why they consider it a "failure"?

if you WFH, and want to order 5G internet, you should always have alternate internet else you would be no internet to work and ending up loosing your job.

Have you ever talked to an engineer? They have no idea what any of this is. The move words around on a spreadsheet and make it go green.

Service has declined because experienced Engineers and Technicians left in mass 2019. 5g, unless it has wide bandwidth, will not be any faster than 4g. But we can convert 4g spectrum to 5g. Only gain is in latency.
LTE 4g was a nice improvement for data speeds. Good luck. Retirement is heaven.

It hasnt enabled anyth6new for the customers. 5g home has been a complete and total failure. Nobody signs up for it. 5g wireless is only signed up for by rich people who don't pay attention to their bill. It's hard to compete as the more expensive service when the service isn't better.

The 5g fiber network will take several lifetimes build. All the while Tesla is coming out with the PI phone. It works off of Starlinks satellite network anywhere. 200+ Meg speeds. Works in the city, country or out in the middle of the ocean.

Former employee, who was proud to work at Verizon at one time. Back in the day, you could be a little snobby about Verizon’s prices. When people asked why it was so expensive, we could honestly speak to the quality of the network.

Not any more.

Never dropped calls or had places where service didn’t work. Now it’s a regular occurrence.

The person who said 5G is a bait and switch is absolutely right. One day it will be significant, but it is not ready for prime time. That isn’t just Verizon. The concept that it is super speed doesn’t matter to most customers. We just want our calls to work.

You have to turn off 5G in cellular settings on all iPhone 12 and 13 for the phones to get good reception.

It is oddly strange how service has degraded over the last 2 years since 5G started rolling out. Half the customer coming in have the same exact services issues. We would never have this volume of service issues before. All of us employees even have noticed a service down grade. It’s pretty bad when we have to show the customer how to turn off 5G in their phone to try and improve service.

Not a failure, but definitely a Public Realtions challenge. Things like overly expensive 5G phones, expensive build outs ending up with nodes in unwanted places such as right next homeowners who don't understand why THAT spot was chosen, then folks not really knowing the differences between 5G and 5G UWB, and why they really need all that speed with a $1000 phone. It will catch on. If phone prices start dropping more with good plans it will catch on!

Retail scenario: Customer "I just got an iPhone 13 and csr service told me to go to a store and get a 5 g sim"?ok give me your phones and I'll go in the back and get a 5 g sim, In the interim I put in customers old 4 g sim in New phone and voila the new phone says 5g service, customers response " oh thank you" also, why are customers being told to go to stores for 5g Sims? Just activate the e sim? Yes we do run out of sim cards so it males queue times longer and we run out of sim cards, train the 3rd party csr care reps a little better. Also, thanks for the 5 on survey the last day of last month we lost about $200 in team commission.

Seems like it all started in the last 1.5 years or so. All the time complaining about service issues, dropped calls, slow speeds, spotty service and all kinds of network issues. Seemed like previous years there were never problems. Still luckily works better then most carriers in my area.

I don’t care if it takes Verizon 20 years to roll out UW to most areas. The problem has been service in general has gone down over the past year. So we have to go backwards to get forward ? Customers don’t have the patience for that. Working in the retail store I don’t have the patience either. When will the bleeding stop ?

5G has not delivered what the execs envisioned a few years back. They were touting it as the next “industrial revolution”. The director who told us this is no longer with Verizon. So far, 5G is a failure.

The roll out is just slow. The other problem is Tmob just tweaked their 4G and labeled it 5G to make it look like they cover everything already and everyone else is behind. They are barely getting LTE but calling it 5G.

So with all the promos the last 6 months requiring "premium" unlimited. Imagine the day when Verizon decides to stop crediting off the 5g access. Oh my. We will see a tsunami of customers coming in with billing escalations. Especially when 99% of them can't access 5g UW. Winter is coming....

Since they started rolling out “5G” in my area, the service has been horrible. I get at least 10 customers a day that want to port out due to a decline in their service. But I also get like 10 customers a day from sprint/T-Mobile due to the same thing happening with their merger.

Anyone else experience this?

It is a failure because it's just 4g with a 5g label slapped on it.

5G nationwide is a gimmick. I have a 4g phone and a 5g phone. They speed test at the same speeds and the 4g is 3-4 years old. 5GUW is a different story however it's so concentrated it is in small areas; it basically worthless. I can walk 500 feet and get UW and 500 feet the other way and it's gone.

Customers don't give a hoot about 5g either, they just want their phone to work. It seems the network has gone to cr-p every since the roll out.

5g is development is this video.
