Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Hostile work environment

I am the only non Indian person in my tech team of 8. Everyone including manager are from India (in Plano TX). I watched my capable team get laid off over the years and replaced with very low level cheap talent. Most of men are ok to work with but I find that Indian women to be extremely rude and talk over you and speak so fast it sounds like they are speaking a different language. Yesterday I was backstabbed when one of the ladies went to the manager to complain about me that I took credit for her work. The real story is she failed the project miserably and asked me for help. She sat back doing nothing while I did manage to save it. Once we are back in track she says ok I'll taken over now. I told her no. This is critical and I should lead because the business partners have asked for you to be removed. It was a harsh reality for her and she did not take it well.

This whole thing with hiring id--ts that are cheap has to stop! The office in Plano is like walking into an office in Mumbai!

I'm looking for another job, I'm an outcast in this team and out numbered...in my own state where I was born. In the company I worked for 21 years.
Let that sink in...this place is a dump and years ago I used to be proud to work here.

Texas had an increase of 738,560 in it's Asian population from 2010 to 2020, so yeah Plano will have an increase as you've seen.

What's wrong with diversity? It's America the "melting pot" right?

I shouldn't be surprised by the OP, but I am. Rather bold statements. The US workforce has changed dozens of times throughout our history. A strong presence of an Indian workforce is nothing new. I'm sure you've seen the workforce change a few times over your 21 years, if not, how did you not notice it?

Name a race or ethnic background and I guarantee I can point out when and how they have been discriminated against. Not one group has escaped bigotry, racism, slander, shunning, and/or hatred in this country. Fortunately, in the long run, those who choose hate, discriminate, etc.. lose.

In my 20+ years working here, the number of people that I have cut off for various reasons, are less than 5. Not a bad track record considering the amount of people I have worked with.

If you’ve been on a cruise you see all nationalities. The cruise lines are careful however to not have one large group that takes over. There has to be a balance for harmony.

This is the future. Indians and Chinese make up over 2Billion of world population. As long as USA has H1B work visas, more and more Indians and Chinese will be coming to USA. Why? Because there aren't enough technology folks in USA to be able to do the work. This is the reality. Either you mix with them, and try and figure out how to get along with them and speak and work as fast as they do, or get out of the way. Not only Indians and Chinese, but lot of foreigners who come to the USA and work in any type of a job are hard working, put a lot of effort into learning, and do it quickly. Yes, there are times that quality lacks but that's managements fault for ridiculous deadlines. Now a days, you see so many IT/tech/engineers works on weekends to meet deadlines. This is the new normal. And companies are taking advantage of this since they don't have to pay salary workers who make over a certain amount overtime pay. These are the labor laws in USA due to lack of unionization. In Europe, because there are unions, there are strict labor laws. In France, the work week is 35 hours. If the company wants you to work overtime, they need to get approval from the government. Anyway, I'm getting off topic. Basically, you just have to try to fit in or get out of the way. Competition among Indians/Chinese/Foreigners is huge. Even if you resolve others issues/mess, they will try to take credit. They will be nice to you in the beginning, but then they turn on you. Best to stay away from these type of people. Just tell them you don't know how to resolve the issue and just do your own work. Or, document everything you do in a daily status email sent to your manager, yourself, and others involved so your manager knows who's doing what on a daily basis. It's an honest way of communication and no one other then you can take credit for it. Also, include your manager in any meetings you have. It is up to your manager to join or s/he may just want to pop into the meeting once in a while to check how things are going. That's why you send out the meeting notice with meeting info to your manager and others involved. I know this is somewhat drastic approach but if you feel credit is being taken away from you then this may be the best approach. What's fair is fair. If you do the work, you should get the credit. People aren't always honest, so you have to figure out a different approach since you may have to work with them on future projects. You can always talk to your manager one-on-one and hopefully they will help you find a solutions. That's the managers job.

I think what needs to be understood here is that this is 100% the banks fault and not the poor Indian worker who is also trying to make a living. The same goes for any other industry where the corporations are replacing American workers with foreign workers who are paid less.

Corporations love to do this and then love it even more that the anger and vitriol is directed to the foreign worker and not to themselves.

They have a choice, the choice is to hire American workers and make less profit, or hire foreign workers and make more profit. They are greedy and do not care about the workers, American or foreign.

While I understand your sentiment, please direct that anger toward bofa because they are the only ones with the power in this situation.

@foh+1eIZidG0 speaking of straw men...what does discriminatory hiring practices have to do with generalizing an entire ethnicity based on some bigot's persecution fetish.

@tfg+1eIZidG0

Careful with the strawman and appeal to extrememes fallacies. I don't think people are saying they shouldn't have jobs. I think that they are saying that the hiring is discriminatory against other races.

I've been in meetings that are pointless because they are being run by techy Indian folks and i try so hard but CANNOT understand a word they are saying: A-the accent and B-the tech jargon. so frustrating.

Let the team fail. Focus on your job search. See if you can apply elsewhere in the company.

Get used to it. This is the diversity and inclusion everyone dreams about in 2021. The majority by number must be made the minority by 10 to 1 to be diverse enough.
