Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Don't bother to work too hard

Since I finally accepted that breaking my back for the company would bring me nothing, it has been very freeing. Now I make sure to do just enough work not to put my job in jeopardy and pick up my paycheck. No expectations, no resentment. I do my part for how much I'm paid and that's it. It feels so much better than working hard and expecting to be recognized for it just to be ignored again and again.

I just book 1 hour meetings and sit in a conference alone with Netflix. Get paid $200k. I’m your manager waiting to retire in Consumer.

Indeed. Instead use your time to prepare for the new job. Check what kind of candidates other companies are looking for and use your time to learn/refine those skills. If not looking for a new job, give time to your family, yourself, your hobbies. Your job and even promotion at 3M has nothing to do with your hard work but on factors beyond your control. So relax and enjoy your life. 3M is not that bad after all.

Yes this is indeed very liberating. Forget about hitting the "top down" OP numbers that are impossible to achieve. Let those regional reporters in Advance 3M structure to worry.

think you have hit the nail on the head, unfortunately we dont all have third level education but the common sense approach of the blue collared worker often outshines that of their white collared equivalent. just work smart not hard,, try and be happy with what you do if your expectations are low
