Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I need a place to vent

I constantly keep seeing people calling others out on "whining and complaining" all the time instead of leaving. So let me try and respond. I've been with Verizon long enough that leaving now makes no sense. I'll be able to retire in under five years, so why start from scratch somewhere else? So that's why I stay even if I'm not too happy with my work. And I have to get my frustrations out somehow. Now, I can complain to my family and friends, but they'll just nod their heads and not understand half of the things I'm talking about since none of them work here. On a board like this, I can vent, get into discussions and commiserate with people who are going through the same things I am. If you have an issue with that, then maybe you're the problem.

"$800k - the price of a tired old unioner's life."

Brah if you can't see the reason to stay another 19 months for the $540k difference between a $260k vs $800k pension and healthcare estimated at say $560k so I can get back to nice easy round numbers for you at $1.1M, log off the internet now because you aren't teachable. $1.1M / 19 months is an almost $58k a month swing plus my on the clock coin. You'd leave? Sounds like you are saying you would which isn't surprising, the dimmest bulbs are always the easiest to spot.

Get a govt clearance while at VZ and then find a new, better paying job somewhere else.
Your union should be negotiating for yearly Govt clearance bonuses for their members. Nothing but crickets from the CWA National.
CWA is failing their members every contract. Ignoring their members every day. Out of touch.

$800k - the price of a tired old unioner's life. Somewhere in Verizon someone is crunching the numbers to come up with this number which equates to peasants crumbs. Also probably calculating how many of them will make it to retirement and how many will keel over within 5 years of retiring.

What a sad life. No wonder you are all angry and need to vent.

"Even if you worked here for more than 20 years and went elsewhere for 5 years, you could still retire. I am not following the mentality of let me stick it out and complain at the same time."

Simple, this place sucks but what's holding a lot of us here is very, very simple math:

Today: $260k pension and no retiree healthcare
5 years: $800k pension and retiree healthcare

I didn't see anything in the OP's post about stress or being miserable, just wanted to vent and complain this place sucks, because it does. I know for me I have 0 stress because I couldn't careless about this dump, just waiting for my numbers to line up. I used 5 years in my math because that's what the OP said but thankfully I'm only 19 months away from being able to dump this dump.

Suck it up and pick up another job. Then take it till 9p.m. and enjoy the reward. Not many place paying 160 grand a year and bennys....When you are retired and looking back....It will be laughable....I promise.

Even if you worked here for more than 20 years and went elsewhere for 5 years, you could still retire. I am not following the mentality of let me stick it out and complain at the same time. There are plenty that have left after more than 20 years and have found successful new positions. You make yourself miserable because you chose that path. If you planned your retirement to occur in 5 years then so be it. In the meantime, you make not make those 5 years and may have a heart attack, stroke, etc. because you are so stressed. If you are truly that miserable, look elsewhere and increase you ability to reach retirement. So stop the whining and make a positive change.

I enjoy reading these and rarely comments here is a nickel for you. Speak to Lucy from peanuts, he advice booth is only 5 cents. What do you need to vent for? if you don't like Verizon then leave. I was there 22 years, when I was fed up I waited for an offer. And it was a good run both in union and management. Look into the mirror and you will find all the answers....

Wait until 2023. All the cry babies will come crawling here to cry just like they did in 2016. Pathetic.

No worries sonny. I will be leaving in a few years with a bundle of loot and the knowledge that I actually did something. You will have less, owe more and will likely leave no testament to you or your generation's existence apart from some footprints in the sand which will be washed away just like you. Bye-Felicia as you beta boiz like to say!
