Thread regarding CVS layoffs

I want to get out of retail

I am looking for a way out of this company, but also out of this industry in general. All the years spent in retail have left a toll on my health. However, how to get out of this industry without enough skills? Not so easy.
I would love to hear the experiences of those who have succeeded at this even though they did not have an enviable skillset.

Well if you are looking to change now is a good time. You should be able to find something other than retail if that's what you're looking for. Every business is looking for help.

Gotta love the mo--n that gave an arrow down to good advice. Whoever it is must have zero confidence in their ability, but thinks they entitled to be more successful in a job outside of retail with out actually doing anything to help their personal growth. Good luck out there and enjoy the 2% reviews and unloading 24 pallet trucks from three different warehouses in 11 degree weather at 4 am. Enjoy the daily harassment over CarePass, CFR, AP and a thousand other things. Enjoy the toxic leadership culture. You’ll be stuck where you are until you are 50 playing the victim card that you deserve better, but everyone is holding you down. One day when your millennial RX Licensed DL who knows nothing about the business finally is done abusing you, you’ll wake up an realize you have wasted your time and you did nothing to help yourself when you could have. Good luck finding a retail job making the money you did at CVS when you are on the back nine of your life. Like I said. Mo--n.

Don’t listen to the person with the last comment. While I can tell you it is not easy. It is certainly not impossible. That being said as long as you are working for CVS, you should take a vantage of some of the resources they have for education. They have partnerships with a couple of colleges that will assess any credits you may already possess as well as life credits and looking at your learning hub courses to see if it applies for any learning credits. It’s certainly not gonna get you even an associates degree, but it’s a start. After you assess how many credits you potentially have, take advantage of the discounted tuition and the $3000 a year tuition reimbursement CVS offers. It’s free money for you to get yourself educated in a field that interests you on CVS’ dime. When you’re in a better position take the degree and run.

In the meantime, play nice with others. Play the politics that they love so much. Put away pride and kiss as much field bu-t as you can. Currently they are giving district leader and asset protection positions away. Many people I know in my region have been promoted without a college education. This is about building your résumé. If you’re going to stay employed at CVS milk it for all it’s worth. Then move on and apply your experience eventually and hopefully out of retail.

Here are my final thoughts. You need to help yourself. It’s great you want to get out of retail, but you to feel like that could never happen because you don’t possess a certain skill set. So if that’s the obstacle, do something about it. Talking about it and hoping for something to change will get you nothing. You need to take the action necessary to make it happen. Good luck and I hope you are able to get out of this he-l ho-e soon!

You have only 3 options.

  1. Marry wealthy.
  2. Become a welfare mooch.
  3. Lights out - Dirt nap
