It may be the worst decision anyone can make, but it doesn't surprise me at all that people leave that way. I hope to last a little longer until I find another job, although I too would most rather give notice this moment. // Do you too know people who left even though they didn't have another job lined up?

I left and found another job for the same comp. Best part is the reduced workload and hours and I get to log off and see my family every night. Stress level is much lower now.
Do what is best for yourself.
I left my last job with nothing else lined up. I spent about a year studying, gaining new credentials, losing weight, travelling, and relaxing a bit too. There was no problem finding new work, and my compensation is about 40-50% higher now. I recouped my losses in under 6 months.
It may have been the best decision I ever made.
Noticed a couple days ago a former colleague is now working for a competitor as some type of manager. Don't know the situation around it but wonder how many are actually leaving without packages.
