Think of the strategy. AIG pays less than 100% STI early for the people that they will be laying off in the 1st quarter. If they had laid them off before STI, then they would have to pay at 100%, as they would owe full benefits.

i don't know. maybe because aig has always given raises with sti payout and inflation is soaring around the country. even if a person were going to be rifed in march would it really hurt to give at least a few percent to help them on their way? seems like the right thing to do, but that is obviously changing this year.
if aig wants to be ruthless to their employees that is fine. just stop telling us how much you care and what a great humanitarian organization aig is. ram your coffee bean up your a** aig.
and why would they give a raise to someone they are going to rif?
and if they gave a raise in february they would have to pay more severance when they rif you march. upper management never stops thinking of ways to scr*w the workers. bravo PZ, bravo!
