It's no longer a question of if but when you'll be hit with either a PIP or a layoff. Knowing this, you have no excuse to be unprepared when it happens. Even if you think you're too busy, there's always enough time to update your CV and look at available openings. Plus, reaching out to some people who could help you with a job before you need to ask them for a favor is always a good idea. You've got nothing to lose if you do this and a lot to gain.
