Optimism to Win?

Mike has recently being talking about bringing optimism back. Is that code for layoffs. Optimism to win?

I’m a long term employee and haven’t owned or contributed to CVX stock in my 401k for a long time, not since the company match was allowed to be taken any way I wanted. I did own Chevron stock when the match was paid only in company stock, but those were better days and times. I’ve grown my 401k much quicker holding and rebalancing the other 401k offerings.

Higher stock prices isn’t just good for MW but also for everyone that is in the Chevron 401k. Yes, executives have bonuses tied to Chevron stock and benefit a lot but so do the rest of us employees. Heck if you want those benefits, work to become an executive. I do hope optimism makes Chevron stock fly high ! 😃

Instead of using silly slogans with subjective words that have little meaning or substance, just speak honesty and bluntly for a change? We’re all supposedly adults and trained professionals here at Chevron. Communicate to the workforce that way and you’ll gain the respect you’re seeking. Yes, I’m leaving this message to MW and everyone who manages personnel at Chevron.

Management has recently become aware that all the employees are fairly unhappy with their jobs, their leaders, their company and this failing industry. MW's sage advice - "Cheer up!"

Double-speak for I know that I totally f*** up the company following the bad management practices of Microsoft's Nadella, but if you do not all put a happy face on it I will never be able to cash out with a big golden parachute.

Optimisim? This must be the latest smokescreen from BCG. Face it, ladies and gents, we're on the Titanic, MW and his flunkies have identified their lifeboats, for everyone else it's just a matter of how fast the ship is sinking. Myself, I'm aiming for another big severance package later this decade.

@lll+1eduQ2SY I truly hope thats the case. MW has little credibility anymore regarding layoffs as he seems to love them but I truly hope he's learned his lesson after the last one.

Au contraire. I think that is management speak that there will not be any more layoffs in the near term and we need to keep our employees happy. After Biden went begging to Putin and the Saudi's to open up the taps and they essentially told him to eff off, the administration may have decided they might have been a little too hasty about running U.S. oil and gas companies out of business. Maybe they are going to let companies like Chevron continue to produce those nasty hydrocarbons for a little while longer. I think there is a new meme circulating and that is the U. S. needs oil and gas producers, at least for the short and medium term, until renewables have reach more of a critical mass. As Ayn Rand said, "You can ignore reality, but you can't ignore the consequences of ignoring reality".

Apparently leadership has been watching too much Joel Osteen:
"No we won't improve your working conditions, just change your mindset and lower your expectations and you'll be happier"
