Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Seagate. You better drop the mandate.

General Electric, 3M, Verizon, and Oracle have renounced vax mandates. The list is growing. If Seagate continues with vaccine mandates going forward I will be leaving. There's lots of employer options now where it's not required. Now, clean off your brown nose Seagate and remove it from the governments bu-----e.

1rfzi - Doesn't prevent businesses from creating their own mandatory vax policy. It only prevents the Govt from forcing them.

So the federal vaccine mandate was overturned by the Supreme Court yesterday.
How does this impact employees who were terminated and those current and future employees?

That double jab and booster work so well, though. At this point I know more people that have had Covid then not. Maybe it will finally burn through the population to get us back to some type of normal.

We are living in a dystopian future movie. It's no longer fun watch movies about other dystopian futures since we are directly in one now.

"You don't get a choice when your "informed" opinion can result in the death of someone else. Why is that so difficult for you to grasp?"

Wait... I thought the vaccines work. Did I miss something?

If the Omicron variant infects vaccinated as easily as unvaccinated and both vaccinated and unvaccinated can spread it equally as easily, then the whole point of the mandate is essentially moot. The only difference is the unvaccinated are more likely to have more severe symptoms.

This isn't about safety once you hit a certain degree of vaccination, it's about control.

Sign on the entry door states that you are not able to enter after Jan 4th. Manager said those who declined have their badges deactivated. He said the number who declined was well below 1%.

At this point the company has a bigger issue of people leaving (either through new employment or retiring.) I have never seen it like this before.

Curious if Seagate is going to follow through with the mandate. Deadline is up.

I won't call them anti-vax. Most people want a choice, and that is not being given. Obviously, Seagate is not a leader company anymore. Just following all the sheep.
No one should be forced to get the vaccine and lot of us, have had Covid and no consideration for that.

"What if your weight was a condition of employment?"
Where do I sign up for the vaccince to not be overweight?

Do we know the factors that cause myocarditis among those getting the vaccine yet? When you do, get back to me.

I think the benefits outweigh the risks for most people, but I don't blame anyone for not doing it. If you made employers legally liable for side-effects if they mandate it, that might change their position.

"the number of those who felt coerced into getting the vax "

The vax requirement is for the health of the whole workforce. Viewing it in the narrow lens of "freedom" and "coercion" simply ignores the fact that the company is trying it's hardest to keep it's workforce healthy. I personally think anyone looking through this lens are the most selfish and ignorant and don't seem to care about the rest. Please go somewhere else now where they have no rules and hold Omicron air sharing parties.

Correct; it is a much lower number than 5% that did not comply. Maybe that number doesn’t matter so much perhaps as the number of those who felt coerced into getting the vax or exemption. How many people left the company or are now upset enough about this that they will leave, or just be bitter employees? Especially considering there are other companies changing direction and now not adhering to the Federal mandate.

Slippery slope. They can mandate other medical requirements. What if your weight was a condition of employment? If no pre-existent medical conditions was a condition? Hmm, you smokers still paying that fee in the insurance plan? If your age was a condition. It’s all for the goodness of the company and employees. Trust us.

Sorry to ruin your narrative but numbers came out and compliance is much higher so there will be none of this "5-10%" getting let go.

Well duh. This is a 5-10% RIF with no severance to worry about. It's like manna from heaven for the Board of Directors.

It’s now no longer about the government mandate. The latest communication said something to the effect that even though the presidential mandate is on hold after states challenged it, the company is now requiring the vaccine as part of the “company policy” as a condition of employment. Other companies are not enforcing this, but some still are.

Lower paid job elsewhere? I doubt Seagate will be giving us a raise due to inflation yet if you get hired on somewhere they will factor in the inflation on starting salary.
