Does management want happy employees?

Aside from the fact that I think most managers here are incompetent and uninterested in their work, a lot more worrying is that some of them do not really want to see happy employees?! Whenever I was happy and relaxed at work, my manager tried to spoil my mood. Maybe it’s just a coincidence of course, but more and more I think some of them are deliberately putting pressure on employees because they can’t stand to see us happy and relaxed, in their minds something had gone terribly wrong if we are not feeling the stress.

The woman running our group wants everyone to be happy. But doesn't do anything to make that happen, actually it's the opposite. So all she wants is for people to smile, laugh and say how wonderful life is. I'm not sure she has half an active brain cell.

Agree with OP. I used to have a laid back, can and will do any/everything attitude. Then my manager began gaslighting me which took its toll.

Now, if someone said I could make the same salary continuing to work at BNYM or go clean human fe--s off the California streets, I'd actually choose the latter.
