Thread regarding JPMorgan Chase & Co. layoffs

Bad review

I too got a bad review. It demoralized me more than anything. Why? Because I really tried and worked a lot harder than when my review was good. I am completely honest with myself and I am always self-critical, but I still don't understand why bad review.
Has it ever happened to anyone else that your review is worse the more you work and the more engaged you are?

one more funny part rules are for low level guys like VPs and under, two of us in my group always fought on JPM rules, which managers ignore.
I don't want to write all those it will become nasty.
You know why JPM is getting fined every year because of these managers who think it's their kingdom and can do whatever they want.
HR gives so many trainings every year, but good number of managers breach them.

My MD decides my review, I am just VP. Worked for 8 years, I am good in what I do, finished projects that were pending for years, double the speed, first 5 years got very less bonuses. My MD who is nontechnical asked me something for which I said i am not familiar with that yet because I joined 3 days ago in this new project, which has 300 hundred tables, all business. He decided that I am useless. My immediate manager gives me M+ or M always, he almost fought for me, but I get nothing for lost 3 years, no salary increase also. My MD said I will get replaced exactly 2 years ago and emailed me in the group, which he insulted me, my previous manager left 2 years ago, getting growths from then, funny part is I do solve all the issues, training 3 more guys last 2.5 years, they are not upto the par yet. I fought with HR big time, no use. HR almost cant do anything, they don't deny my arguments either.
Meanwhile the people who are utter failure in their projects get promotions and bonuses, the people who depend on me every day get bonuses.

So networking matters, if you fight with HR they will keep you another 6 months or a year more.
I am waiting for severance package, which is the stupid thing I did for last 2 years, I came this far fighting for justice, so I will wait.
I will be very happy if they layoff me. Public email to remove me 2 years ago by current MD, two growths, still keep me.
Total discrimination. I am old guy (55) who did consulting all my life before joining JPM, my MD commented that I am still VP for my age. At that time HR came into picture, because MD complained about me, I was laughing and said why they are emailing be though I didn't complain. I said I have no intention I took it sportively. Last year I went to HR and wrote about comments he made previously, nothing happened.

I am writing all these because someone suggested to go to HR. Unless you have intention to take it to court, just don't do it. These kind of things are very hard to judge also, in court you may rarely win.
I think JPM on whole is good, but after this experience I don't want to work for JPM and I know they don't care.

It is absolutely a pre cursor to a layoff! That’s how they work at JPMC! Do not accept anything they write in the review that is not true! Fight it! I did and eventually found out that my manager was told what to write by his manager. It’s a set- up! JPMC IS CORRUPT !

Maybe you should talk to your manager vs post on here? I’d suggest asking your manager what it was that you fell behind on or how they’d like you to approach different situations or scenarios. Come end of year you should never be surprised. Your manager dropped the ball. I’d also let them know that you thought you were performing well and that the review caught you by surprise

Job review is a joke. NETWORKING matters, not how much work you do, or how good you do it is the not case. Your knowledge of the job, proprietary or industry, your ability to do it, your work ethics, ability to co-work, train others and respect your piers does not count as much as the written feedback from staff, all levels, provided to your manager. Introverted individuals or individuals who feel uncomfortable asking for feedback rarely get enough feedback. Sometimes piers, those having the same job or similar jobs, give negative feedback because they might be vying for the same promotions or next positions. Managers, supervisors take the easy way out, they accept the feedback and adjust the review based on feedback AND not work results.

Identify as someone who tries harder. Dye your hair purple or green.

I got two growths this year and one last year. And this year, I'm on a new team in a different LOB with a different manager. I don't know what happened. I work harder than anyone else on my team and the most knowledgeable.

I have been there. I am laid off right now, and as much as I need a job, I get anxiety about going into one for this exact reason. You try your best, yet someone has to cr-p all over you. I understand.

Ratings mean nothing, it's a complete joke.

Don’t you have an understanding of what the metrics are all year? Seems odd that the end of the year review would be a big surprise.

This is why I never try that hard. They always have to give someone a bad review so they have reason to lay off. I got a bad review as well, I’m already looking. I’m sure my bonus will s#ck.
