Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Multiple layers of management

Clearly, this has become a big problem here because management is cumbersome, inefficient and costly. Will ATT ever rethink the top-heavy management and get rid of unnecessary managers? My opinion is that this would be the best way for this company to start breathing a little easier.

This is nothing new. There were studies going back three decades ago and beyond that AT&T was far too bloated with irrelevant management and of course did nothing about it, of course until it was too late

None of them seem to do anything except make offensively tone deaf cartoons of themselves these days so who cares?

Hey, John Stankeys cartoon videos make him relatable.

Yeah no. Most employees saw that video and recoil in horror. I hope our competition has not witnessed the decline of our supposed CEO. They will pounce.

I thought that Bill Morrow of Elliot Management hedge fund was going to clean house.
But it seems that he has been offered management of one of the spin-off companies.

What a surprise! A member of a hedge fund could find a way to enrich himself by walking away from cleaning up the disaster that is AT&T to work at one of the spin offs. Payed off or gave up, who knows. There is a lot of money to go around in the AT&T universe.

Good.
Let them all makes rules and send directives.
2 cones? 3? He-l I'll put 12 out.
The more rules they make, the less actual work I have to do.
I get $40+ an hour.
I'll clean my bucket truck cab, be sure my windshield is spotless, do my pre and post trip inspection, drive under the speed limit, fill out the drivers log and watch every stupid video they want me to. 3 times to be sure I understand.
Cuts my actual work down by at least 35-40%.
And allows me all the OT I want.
They feel good because they are "doing something."
And I'm making bank by following our wise leaders.

All the layers have nothing to do with managing people or work. It is a channel to report upward, pasting ppt together and send it up y to on the next layer.

Every few years they say there are too many layers and they are flattening the company. Then a bunch of VP types retire and maybe they take one link out of the chain. Then within 6-12 months there's 3 reorgs and we're back where we started.

None of them seem to do anything except make offensively tone deaf cartoons of themselves these days so who cares?

A self serving layer.

One of these days they will wipe out those 2 middle layers. Then you will have a BIG gap in knowledge and all the VP's will be overloaded and have to work.

Still way too many AVP, EVP, SVP, VP titles. Go into Webphone and just go down like 2 or 3 layers from Stank. It's completely ludicrous. There was a time when many in those titles were well rounded and very sharp folks, with knowledge around different parts of the business. Some of those folks remain, but they are in the minority. Many there now were fast tracked based on factors having nothing to do with knowledge and skillset. And it's glaring.
