Those who come back here

I really don't know anyone who came back here, but I hear that there are indeed those who came back after they were cut or left on their own.
My only question is WHY???
Someone must be very desperate to come back here. I can't imagine a circumstance in which I would apply here again after they have already shown me how little I would be valued here.

I know 2 people who used to work in PMO who took the large package a few years back, they both had 20+ yrs in so they got the huge package plus 40+ weeks additional pay. Both of them took a year off and came back as contractors. They both are doing the exact same job as before, swapped benefits for much higher pay(over 35% higher), and are assigned outside of the normal PMO to large customers who have multiple projects in the pipeline at all times. Doesn't sound like too bad a deal to take a year of paid vacation from essentially an identical job and an extra year's salary in the package.

To the guy with 25+ years, Verizon is not like any other company. The culture is garbage and if you’re comparing it to the companies you were at prior to Verizon 25+ years ago..a lot has changed since then. I left Verizon and can tell you the place is toxic with no direction. You can look with a glass half full attitude when viewing Verizon but you’re a lifer obviously and the glass is currently empty at vzw.

Sounds like a victim statement.

Well, I think there are people who decided to take a chance to leave, figuring they would find another good job. And that didn’t happen. Obviously lot of the people who take packages are mid career or older, and they quickly learn how real age discrimination is in the work force.

Also, hate to say it, but I don’t think “Verizon” is as strong a name on the resume as some of us like to think, especially outside the industry.

So with that backdrop, when/if the opportunity to come back appears, it seems like the best move.

Of my time at Verizon, started out as MCI, I had great assignments for all but the last three years. I decided to retire and put my name up for the next RIF and was granted it at year-end. Now I have several months to decide if I want to do anything else in the industry. So the little kids won't play here, I brought in more contract money in my time than any of you will, well over a half billion in contracts.

One is quick to realize that the grass is greener on the other side because they have a sewage leak.

I have worked for this company for 25+ years. There have been ups and there have been downs. I have also worked for other companies before coming here. To be fair, Verizon is no different than any other company. You make of it what you feel is your comfort zone. I have no complaints. What I do not understand is that people like the OP who posts such negative statements hasn't left the company yet. Note that no matter where you go, after the newness, you will find something to complain about. You either look at things as glass half full or half empty. I am happy with my pay and with what I do and I enjoy working for my leaders. I have yet to feel sour about them and don't expect to. The day I do, I will either change positions or find somewhere else to be happy. Life is too short to be concentrating on negativity. So to the original poster, sound like you are super unhappy. Do yourself the favor and find that place where you will be happy. It does not look like you will find it at Verizon.

Not everyone's experience is yours. Some people love their jobs, have an amazing manager, etc...
