Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Leaving in two weeks

Now that I'm on my way out after two years, I can say that Nike has taught me several things for which I will forever be grateful. The main of them is that I learned what I don’t want in a career, which I now realize is just as important as is knowing what I want. So for that, I am grateful. I know I'll be much happier in my new job even with lower pay.

Good you got out. I left about 6 months ago after 20+ years. Best thing that ever happened. I now work at a small company where skills are valued, HR actually supports you and where I can have a decent work/life balance. No bonuses or other incentives can top that.

Yes! I too made the decision to leave today. Already on course to have a new fully remote job offer in the next week or two. My choice and doing for my family, my mental and physical health. I thought it would be more difficult to leave Nike after 7 years, but it turned out to be an easy decision.

Congrats!! I’m in the same boat and I learned the exact same thing - xyz is what I don’t want in an organization.

It’s liberating!

Congratulations on getting out before you totally derailed your career. I've seen many Nike long-timers totally stressed at the idea of "what to do next" because they got stuck in the trap of just doing what they're told instead of focusing on building on the skills that got them into Nike in the first place. Sadly, "how to work at Nike" isn't something that translates well to other companies and roles.

After I left I got two really good offers from other companies, one at a large corporation and the other at a smaller company. I thank myself every day for listening to my gut and taking the job at the smaller company. The larger company tried to dangle yearly bonuses in front of me, but I remember what that cost me in terms of my sanity at Nike. I'm a lot happier working with a group of people who are actually invested in creating good products and experiences and not lying and shuffling papers around.
