Thread regarding IBM layoffs

This does not bode well for IBM storage

I expect an Enterprise deal to result

I expect Kyndryl to align with other storage partners too - if they want to be relevant in the storage sector. With IBM storage showing a relatively small market share, these partnerships such as these will continue to marginalize IBM storage

There is only an excuse from the Execs... how about they actually fix the storage business to be a leader and make money for once... it is always selling assets when they don't work. That gives a pretty idea how bad IBM Execs are. Some day there will be nothing else to sell... bye bye IBM!

IBM wants to be the DuPont of HW Do the research, and sell the IP to anyone who wishes to buy it. The going rate is approx 1 year of sales for an asking price That would mean 2-3 billion for both Power and storage PLUS IBM gets IP revenue for the foreseeable future. In addition the head count moves yet again in the right direction.

IBM will sell the storage business. It makes no money when you minus the software element

It sounds bad, but it's noy surprising. In practice GTS had been ignoring IBM Storage for a long time. They had a long-standing preference for Netapp, and would not even touch Spectrum Scale.
