Uh, no. Not a meritocracy. In fact, if you outshine/outperform your boss, you put a target on your back. You thought you could work hard and get ahead? No, you work for the Slim Shady circus and all the managers are clowns.

Absolutely not, it’s about who you know. You could be the best person in your role and they would hire someone else that they go golfing with.

It’s the BOA way

@1ubu+1f6Zhr6X sadly is doesn't work. What works is being "in" with SLT. Most people who have tried to get promoted by actually doing work has failed with some BS excuse.

You have to set yourself up. At mid year and year end, if you get a M/M, ask...What do i need to do to get to an E/E and then do it. Ask what do i need to do to get a title promo, then do it. Prior to the next review, set yourself up in your managers mind, and let them know your expectations based on their suggestions. "I did everything you asked and more so i am really looking forward to my E/E/Title promotion and i know you will support me." It works. You have to communicate.

No, hard work and results will not equate to promotions at the bank. The ONLY way to get ahead here is to be close to SLT, spend lots of time brown-nosing, "watercooler" talk, bs with them, and that'll get you promoted. My first week at the bank I was told to network and get in good with SLT if I wanted to get promoted. And now having been here a while, I see how true it is. I busted my a$$ the first few years thinking hard work and great numbers will get me promoted, but was sadly disappointed to see people who would be buddies with SLT get promotions even though they didn't meet the guideline eligibility for the promotion.

Hard work and results guarantee that you're going to end up with everyone else's work on your plate. That's about it.

Apparently not. Very disappointing. 18 years in the same job, perm WFH, multiple awards, tons of eCards from LOBs. I average 12-14 hours a day and most weekends. Rarely do I take a vacation. I WFH due to a specific medical condition. I work regardless of my pain level, two rounds of Covid (I took 1 day off), major bone fractures haven't stopped me. Everyone has lousy projects that linger forever, but we eventually finish them.

I have NO idea what it takes for a title change. Frankly I really don't care about titles. Everyone is an AVP, VP, SVP, etc.. For me, just recognize my work ethic and give me nothing more than a title change.

If you figure out the magic behind title changes "promotions", let us know. Until then I'll keep working hard. I'll continue to enjoy the challenges that are thrown at me on a very regular basis. I don't ask for anything, just give me projects, leave me alone, and I will be happy.

Nope. It's all about who you know and who you are related to

No, I seen people who tell half truths, self promote and smooze their way to promotions with mgmt. this is more apparent at higher levels, but lower levels since gain is smaller, promotion are possible with hard work and longevity with bank. If you trust your manager, one can ask what are the requirements for promotion.
