Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Anyone surprised with this year's list of title promotions?

I was thinking I was on track to get one. I was let down. But I've heard that title promotions do not come with a pay bump, so really, I don't view it as a loss. Several other folks in my area got one, so I'll be dealing with inflated egos for a while I guess.

Promotions and new employees...

I think everyone has heard that we are only hiring people in specific cities. I've found two that are no where close to a major BAC location. BOTH were hired as SVPs. I work with people that have been here ranging from 20 to almost 40 years, all of them are VP. What a sm--k to the face to hire someone off the street as an SVP - AND- put them into the same group that has folks with 20+ years but are still VPs.

We work for the only company in the world where 2+2=5

I raised the issue of a title promotion with my manager. It worked but didn't come with a pay increase.

Been at the bank years now and still an AVP. Person on my team was with the bank less than a year and was promoted to VP, but he's also pretty chummy with the manager. Another was promoted to B4 a little over a year after starting, good friends with the manager. It's all about connections at the bank, which is ridiculous since I've had the misfortune to deal with some SVPs /B4s who are complete m0r0ns.

if you get a promotion, you will be notified before the list comes out.

I had to work pretty hard to go from AVP to VP and it took 5 years. It took a few years to get AVP prior to that too. Not overly chummy with leadership (I’m in a non core site and never see anyone I work with), I just don’t say no to things and try not to mess up too badly. I think you do have to be generally well liked but nothing more than that.

At the beginning of my career at the bank I asked for the path to AVP, VP, SVP B5 to B4. I was provided the guidelines and since then have witnessed people who are friendly with SLT get promoted B5 to B4 and AVP to VP, VP to SVP, without meeting what is supposed to be the eligibility requirements. Wanna move up, get to be good friends with SLT, that's the only way.

Does anyone know when the business case is written for title promotions? I know they are announced in Dec or Jan.

In Tech, corporate titles are a no cost way to placate workers. The everyone gets a trophy concept, and now seems to also include a D&I component. The latest list read like a Mumbai phone book.

I will say as a manager, it can be very difficult to get title promotions for your staff. I have to write detailed justifications which then go up the chain and generally get rejected. Some years are easier than others and some senior leaders seem to approve more promotions than others. That’s why managers are always pushing for more visibility. It helps when your name is in front of that senior leader for a promotion and they recall an interaction or working with you.

Was attending one of Cathy B's all hands for managers. She encouraged various 'free' ways to recognize an employee such as recognition cards and....... you guess it: title promotions. There's our answer.

Hey I’ve seen people leave the bank and come back with a higher title that what they left with.
Some LOB promote title promotions some do not.
Favoritism at its finest.

I have been working in my current LOB for 9 years with the same corporate title and taking on more and more responsibilities. I have seen new associates receive title promotions after 6 months to a year. Again, it is all about rewarding your favorites , not recognition for what we actually do.
