Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Sponsor?

First, please do not hate on or judge me. This is an honest question from someone who’s been with the bank almost 10 years.
What is a Sponsor, and the benefit to having one. How do you get one? And lastly does it make a difference?

Sorry, I heard about Sponsors in a huddle a few weeks ago, but time ran out before I could ask.

Thanks all!!

Your sponsor is someone you get when you go the AA meetings after a life of alcohol to get through working at BAC

Ask your manager about a sponsor. I've worked at BAC for 18 years and have trained 50-60% of my team... all remote. Over 18 years all associates that I have trained are still with BAC, except one. The one that left was a contractor and it was obvious that he wasn't qualified.

If you are not comfortable asking your manager, ask HR. Nothing wrong with contacting HR versus your manager.

Here’s the thing about mentors/ sponsors. The minute one is assigned to you. The bank does the old switch-a-roo, they move on or you are moved on. OR you are partnered with someone in another state that doesn’t even come close to what your line of business does and is no help at all. Seen this fail so many times. I stopped doing it

A mentor helps you get better at what you do whereas a sponsor helps you get promoted or hired because they like you, doesn't necessarily matter if you're good at what you do.

If you don't inherently know, you are not eligible.
