Better to stay at EMHC or goto Permian? My manager wants a decision Monday.

With oil being high there will be a continuous flow of resignations as people jump ship and no ability to backfill. Management forgot why they put a premium in place to begin with and are about to be reminded. Of course no changes will be made until a consultant study can be completed which will take years even though the premium was dropped at the first sign of trouble. Employees no longer feel loyalty due to PIPs, 1 year assessment program contracts and just how we have been treated over past 2 years
Management doesn’t recognize that moving to the Permian is a sacrifice. Financially not a good deal made even worse by poor relocation policies such as home loss protection being eroded. Look at the details it isn’t the same home loss protection as it was 10 years ago. Don’t buy a house that needs any work as company won’t consider upgraded in calculating loss. Schools are terrible not just academically but there are legitimate safety concerns with daily fights that spiral into riots. There isn’t anything to do outside of work but luckily you will be working so much due to constant stream of resignations and PIPs that it won’t matter.
Everyone should go into their careerconnect today and enter no to Midland in their mobility section. Of course don’t expect managers to read what you enter but at least you will have it listed if asked.

Do you like working nights and weekends? If you move now and we will also let you support company plan. The annual exercise in Uncon which requires employees to work nights and weekends over a month period to develop a plan which becomes obsolete a week after it is approved. I may quit just to avoid company plan. Such an aggravating exercise every year. Where do they think we get time to do company plan scenarios over and over and over when we already are running at 200%? At least there are fun names like max plus plus commitment. It is a double plus plus good time!
I’d hard pass on that one. Ask your manager if they are willing to go. If they say yes make sure S&D knows and they will be moving next week while you can backfill them. Winning! If they say no then they should understand why you don’t want to go.
As a HiPo I say there is an advantage to staying in Houston. More opportunities to build your network and meet executives who can sponsor you. Executives don’t go to midland. Well maybe they fly in and out for one day every couple of years is all. Many more chances you can progress if you stay in Houston.
Financially it is a losing proposition. Prices in Midland are much higher for everything from milk to gas to housing and the company doesn’t provide an adequate uplift. The group is severely understaffed as a result because no one wants to move there. Until the company makes it financially beneficial I’d say no. Why move somewhere with legitimate challenges and make less money?
Both are sh1th0les. Losing money proposition. EM domestic relocation policies are total cr-p compared to international. I'd request business travel basis from Dallas or Houston.
Not for a lateral move and if you do go make sure you rent.
If you want to buy at the high and sell out at the low, go for it. If you like poor service at restaurants and any other customer service-related business, head west young man (or woman)! If you like poor school districts, beam me up, Scotty, Midland is for you!
