Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

New Roles and more Pay

I can't believe the raise that Personal Bankers received. Everyone is upset and leaving the branch. This was a slap in the face. 5 years of time wasted

Truthfully a branch banker job is viewed just as any other retail job from Wal*Mart to CostCo to Sears to Applebees. Your customers pretty much know what they want even more than you do and are more engaged and knowledgeable about it… because they are the customer.

You really need to better your skillset. A BS in business, finance or Economics with an MBA in a special focus is pretty much the entry level skillset for banking. San Francisco is a bit crazy with the outlandish salaries, but that doesn’t change the fact that branch banking is entry level retail.

Most of us in tech haven’t had a raise in years.

@1zfe. @1cms. In order to take advantage of all the new Chase Branch openings employees will have to RTO and we know how Wells Fargo employees feel about that.

I didn’t believe that post about Chase and then I googled “Chase branch openings” in news. Wow, pages and pages of results announcing new branches all over the country. This article summed it up: https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/jpmorgan-chase-opening-bank-branches-200-down-200-go-2021-06-02/

400 new branches! WF really is a company in decline. I think current management has deluded themselves into thinking they can take one of the oldest banks in the country and turn it into a FinTech.

@koy+1fAsuMd1 what’s ironic is that Chase was under consent order until 3 or 4 years ago that they couldn’t open new branches. Once it was lifted Dimon was giddy to announce they would be expanding west.

I live in AZ and 4 Chase branches have been built, brand new buildings, within 15 miles of where I live. I closed my WF accounts, Chase has more locations with better hours that are way nicer to visit with better ATM options.

So digital being the future is a WF choice. At least one of our competitors is expanding brick and mortar presence and from what I can tell, to great success.

So the call center is safe? No one is safe

a branch job isn't something you do for 5 years. it's a temporary job when you get out of the military or something, until you get yourself established with something better.

it's not a career path and it hasn't been in several decades.

Yep. Don't need to see the customers face-to-face as they can do their business online, but as employees we sure need to go in to "collaborate".

Not just people in branches. Most of the company got a piddling raise unless you are high in the food chain and/or a friend of Chuckles.

Branches are old news. Half are closing this year. Digital is the future.

If you didn't see this coming you've been in denial.

@dnx. You are right. Wells Fargo, like everyone else, is encouraging customers to do all their banking online. You can train call center employees to do what PB's do.

I don’t think everyone is upset.

It feels like they want clients to open accounts online. Branch bankers could be an endangered species judging by what I’m seeing.
