Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Useless managers

Many feel that their manager is completely useless. Maybe Dell should do a survey on why such an opinion about managers is spread in this company.
I think the answers to the question "why do you think your manager is useless" would be quite interesting?

This is how Dell may take care of this issue:
Step 1: use a survey to assess your manager
Step 2: punish an organization that gets bad scores
Step 3: all of a sudden, everyone loves their managers and everything is perfect

When I joined Dell one of the first pieces of advice I got was to never give an honest feedback to your superiors or it will come to bite you in the a-s. Since I tried it once and saw how it worked, it's all top scores every year for everyone.

@1rnj+1fBDSVsF yes, I love it he is so clueless and my group does whatever and if you think that's awesome you should see how clueless his boss is.

Wish tell Dell actually worked as a way to give feedback or get rid of bad managers, but almost every year I get a new manager right before tell Dell time so the old manager gets to run away from any consequences and the new manager receives a survey from people who don’t know anything about them. I think in 10 years at Dell I have only actually been able to rate my real past year manager once.
This strategy and timing for role changes is probably done on purpose…

Stop blaming your managers, we are tired of babysitting you. We listen to you complain about your peers, about this or that petty thing you are asked to do each day. Just do your job, that's what you are paid to do. That's what us managers are paid to do. We don't make the rules, we are held to them just like you. Instead of blaming your manager why not work with them to make both of your lives better. You may have more in common with her or him than you know.

My manager is a son of long timer.

Now that's a manager we want. Reliable, trustworthy and good pal of the big guys!
