Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

How can the money invested in TMG be recovered

Pat is doubling down on TMG but how can it work?

Intel spent more than anyone else and we wildly successful going from two to three year lead to a 3 year lag! Dang that was a decade lost!

Now they will spend billions and claim a node per year catch up. Someone neglected to tell Pat to get economical yield and process and tool learning you need to run a lot of wafers and it take easily six quarters to get yield up. Thus there is no way most of these nodes will ever make it to volume, that is the reason Intel has said “ Manufacture Ready”

So the pitch is we get volume by having foundry and IFS fantasy is born. Who are the customers that have money to do advanced node and aren’t a competitor in some way, Apple, Nvidia, AMD, Qualcomm, MediaTek? Why would anyone really consider Intel as they will be late, small and likely economically not viable even with Government subsidies. Also even with Tower Intel can’t come close to the scale nor breadth of offering that a GF or UMC or TSM offer.

Summary for IDM2.0 and IFS: no offerings, no scale, no breadth, and 3 years behind, yup a recipe for success

As we all at Intel know it took > 30 quarters to get 10nm to the point they have Alder Lake. Tell me again how the bozos in LTD are going to accelerate and get four nodes to what 22nm RISO?

A broken clock is correct twice a day. Words and enthusiasm isn't going to dig us out of the current situation. I wish I was more hopeful, but the last decade plus of experience with 10nm has opened my eyes to the reality of current company capability. I do not expect this to end well.

Don't worry. Why do you think Pat was in DC. The man bought brand new knee pads for the trip.
