Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Unionization

It is definitely possible. Lowes has screwed too many employees for too long.

So tonight we had a meet up consisting of over 80 employees from three different stores in our market. We all have a similar sentiment about unions, but with how we've been treated for the past couple years, with constant restructuring, threatened with our jobs over credit cards, etc., that a union might be needed. We discussed goals, plans, structuring, etc. We think we might be on to something.

Most of the employees at my store were in support before the meeting, but now knowing other stores have similar support in the market boosted our morale. A few people from the other stores stated that their stores have a similar feeling as well, and that they would take action with us.

We are also talking unions in our market and efforts will soon be underway.
Good luck and thank you.

Retail unions don't do anything for associates just another way for them to dock your pay.Take it from someone who worked at one for 15 years. If you've never worked for one you'll enjoy your 15 cent a year raises plus a bunch of other issues that go along with that.

Hello… this is great. Can you post about this in https://www.reddit.com/r/LowesUnion/

I started it but have not really done much.., Reddit had a huge community and more people might see your post. Who knows.. it could catch on

I just want to say this:

They wouldn’t fight so hard against retail unionizing, unless they were scared for the employees to do so. They fight it because it’s not convenient for them.

I’ve heard people say that retail can’t unionize because that’s for different industries that require training and skills. Well….I don’t know many people who could juggle customers, IRPs, downstocking, code 6s, and that days to do list. PLUS decipher whatever cockamamie software or new program being forced on the employees, even though it’s still only half baked. These big wigs in corporate would CRUMBLE if they had to do all of that in a days work.

Retail, and food service, workers ARE skilled and in high demand.

We live in a country where someone gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year….but the people who provide their meals (food service) get paid $7.25 an hour with no weekends off, and the people who care for their children (daycare) get paid $8. They spend their money and their weekends in stores where the employees make the bare minimum with inconsistent schedules to accommodate that initial persons days off. Wages are kept down and hours vary to keep money in the same sagging pockets. Our country is broken.

Never forget the power of the little guy.

@jxk+1fDtcFwV, this is the plan. This was our first meeting, and TBH I was surprised at the number we got to show up, not only from my store, but people from neighboring stores.

Since there are six stores in the market within a 20 mile radius, the plan is to just build up support and try to get as many people on board as possible. At that point if we decide to take action, such as a union vote, Lowes will have no choice but to let it happen. The cost to shut down six or more stores in an area would hit the company hard, as well as cause a massive loss of market penetration. At that point, Lowes will have no choice but to allow the vote and to acknowledge unionization

Try to get more stores in the District involved. Lowe's might shut down one or two :"for renovations," but a larger effort would hit them in the pocketbook too much.

The whole company needs to be unionized. Enough of managers and supervisors treating people like cr-p.
