I had a job interview, and I mentioned that I was laid off from a previous company.
The interviewer seemed suspicious, saying it seemed odd with the position that I had. I elaborated that it was a huge layoff at the company, and I have been trying to find work since.
That judgment made me question whether I want to join this company. Now I am having doubts. Don't look down on me or add suspicion to what I told you.

Its a question that needs to be handled delicately. How you answered probably matters. Not everyone has had the experience of being laid off and may not be familiar with the nuances. Some people probably see it as a negative.
It's not a big deal. Interviewers are supposed to ask you tough questions. Just answer them politely and honestly you will be fine. Stop being so soft
Sounds like they just showed you the environment you’d be working in if offered the job.
It’s d-mb that they question you. It is a lay-off, not being fired. Which means you got let go with no fault on your part and out of your control. Do these interviewers know anything ? Layoff are common within corporate America and especially during pandemic. But the better question is do you want to work for an employer full of ignorant people like that thing ?
