Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

SCS Leadership

Awful. On so many levels. Everyone is burned out. I’ve never seen anything like it. Direct people managers don’t know what’s going on, upper management is touting themselves as “premier” and building “world class service”. We’ve been hearing for 2 years that changes are coming, all we’ve seen are constant reorgs, layoffs, and the best people are leaving (or already left). Kind of feel stupid for staying but I really don’t want to restart my career.

Looks like Bashar is surrounded by Yes men. I know a decent amount of people in SCS and not a single person is happy or supports the direction we are going (including managers). SOC is slowly being replaced by Contractors. Half the teams don’t have managers. People are being handpicked for leadership roles rather than holding interviews. Employees are disengaged and depressed.

I spoke with two excellent former employees and they don’t even mention working at Schwab when they apply elsewhere. That’s f-ing awful.

Bashar and Leadership - you are ruining SCS and the people hate it. I used to be proud to work here and cared about the company. Now I’m just demoralized and unmotivated.

I’m curious to hear how others feel, particularly leadership. Are you hearing from anything positive from your people?

Bashar is a monster and Schwab knows it. A classical case study of corporate bully that destroys a team while pleasing senior management.. The good news is that the industry has a way to get his reputation known and at this point he is unemployable outside Schwab.

I dunno man. Some of the more senior leaders in SCS challenge him regularly. Those that bring the evidence and data do influence him. The problem is that many talk off the cuff with only hear-say reasons and he doesn't react well to that. Yeah there are some bad apples but there's some really good ones that get sh-t done and are respectful and listen to their teams. When you start watching the traffic on who is asking who questions and advice you can figure out the good ones pretty quick like.

Also running away from scs to some other company's security team doesnt solve all the problems because everybody has the same problems just different faces. Whole industry is overworked and understaffed. You just have to figure out what interests you and if you like your boss and are paid decent.

I had a pretty valid complaint that I put in that survey they sent around and it actually got addressed so they are being responsive. Maybe they dont understand your issue because you havent explained it?

JC is Green and was transplanted into SCS. That does not count.

I would agree with that assessment. However, SCS has some good mid level managers. TQ and JC just to name a few. Some other good ones left a while back.

Bashar intimidates people, scares people for the answer - he wants - rather than the right answer. Most of the people that were considered the stars of SCS have left to work for better leaders, not always better companies.
Fortunately, for now, robust signing bonuses and bigger paychecks are available for many in Cyber. You can do better, so just keep looking while you have a job and then don't feel guilting about bailing on Bashar when your opinions didn't matter to him, anyway. Keep in contact with your Cyber-Frens so that left so they can keep an eye out for you. It's that easy.

It took a while, but I see that we have finally hit the Godwin's Law event horizon.

@1gtp+1fIXUvty, and what if Churchill had your same attitude towards Na-i aggression? The world would be a much worse place. Wouldn't you agree?
So you feel the worker should just submit to his master and 'get over it?'
It is because of spineless people like you that we lose our sense of self and value. It is why we continue to lose our freedom until one day, all is lost.

I hear the same thing in other groups. Then I hear the same thing at other companies. Yawn. Get over it or move on.

Well that is how Cyber Security rolls. The staff in ops, in that wanna be command center bunker in Phoenix, is overworked. Fortunately I am a Director. I just layout the groundwork for others to follow, but don't have to do anything. Collect my huge annual bonus, with my large annual salary. It works for me.
