Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

How many hours is considered full time?

We just won Club of the year, did 138 million in sales last year. Super high volume Club but now they are cutting full time hours from 40 to 35?! I thought 37.5 to 40 hours was considered full time??? Anyways they are so freaking cheap, we are struggling to stay afloat working 40 hours but they still expect the same work done with only giving us 35 hours? Unbelievable!

Congratulations on club of the year first of All, my club had it last year in Palm Desert Ca. They have not cut our full timers yet but our part timers are lucky if they get 15 hours a week

They cut our hours and then two mangers go on vacation. Must be nice. I cannot get my work done in a 5 1/2 hour day. I stay if I am in a middle of a project or are waiting on members.

This is happening in California too. Far as I know just the part time people tho, not full time.

Full time is 34 hours and above. Unless you’ve been there prior to 1992 in which case 28 hours and above is full time. Payroll is the biggest controllable expense and if payroll budget keeps going over then cuts are made to part timers and if a club still can’t hit budget then they start chopping the full timers. My advice, just stay the full 8 hours. It’s bull.

Meanwhile the Joe Schmoes are trying to pay for some of the highest gasoline, utility and grocery expenses they’ve ever experienced. Respect for the individual right there!

People getting paid hundreds of thousands ( on the regional leadership level) to millions (on the national level) find a way to make their superiors happy by shaving on small percentages.

Happens every year in one form or another.

They get big bonuses because Joe Schmoe, saved 3% cutting labor cost this year. While you work your A off, get yelled at because work is not completed, and the added benefit of a smaller paycheck.

Not what you wanted to hear, but it is the true answer to you question.

He happens every year at this time. Company trying to save on payroll. Most everybody at our club had their hours cut by 3 to 4 hours. My part time maintenance people have been cut down to 16 hour a week which put more work on me in the mornings.
