Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Former GM exec hired to lead LCS

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/exxonmobil-appoints-dan-ammann-president-185800366.html

JB, head of LCS, is retiring in May, and the board is bringing in Dan Ammann as his replacement.

To anyone in LCS -- was this move a surprise? Seemed like JB was in full swing on the PR circuit so his departure feels very sudden.

According to Career Connect there are only 43 employees in the entire LCS company. Pretty crazy considering how much it's been hyped up internally and on the news. Maybe JB wasn't growing it at a fast enough rate in the eyes of DW or the board.

Not sure if this has anything to do with the firing or resignation (masked as retirement in either case) of JB but @5xmc+1fSImF4U is absolutely right. LCS has been stuffed (and staffed) with the standard issue, PowerPoint expert, hollow drone that passes for high potential person in the corporation today.

LCS need to clean house and take a serious look who is in their ranks. Recent addition to their marketing arm on bio- is a joke with only superficial knowledge and little understanding of the market or science.

Need people who knows how to execute and with some expertise, not PowerPoint jockeys and brown-nosers.

I had JB and NC as future leaders in the company. Would love to know gossip on what happened to JB, guy seemed smooth. I liked Verity, was a thoughtful guy, and they canned him. NC seems like a good guy. Who's left to lead. Really hope it isn't KM, she's the woooorst.

The little fellow is retiring?

JB tenure as LCS president is less than a year....how can you have a long term strategy for such a short duration especially for a new created business...they should have known that JB is planning to retire before they appointed him....

@2cbw+1fSImF4U You mean, fake it until you make it - or don’t make it, but say you did.
That’s all LCS is, greenwashing, self-promotion, pretend innovation, and washed out HiPos waiting to retire.
GM’s track record of continued advertisement with no real improvement is exactly what fits the mold.

Another proof that past accomplishment does not matter for the new position....he has background in investment...at the end the LCS is about making money and getting investment from shareholders...hence you don't need someone with track record in green technology.....it is all about money, baby!

Folks, Dan Ammann is a former Wall-Streeter and GM executive that has accomplished nothing in his life. He talks too much. He shouts too much. He bullshits too much. But, at the end of the day he accomplishes absolutely nothing. He will fit perfectly well in XOM's current culture. And don't be surprised if he digs a ho-e under Jack, Neil, and Darren feet in the next couple of years to become XOM's next CEO.

And we keep being told LCS is a play on our historical strengths and yet no one inside the company is capable of running group! I guess the long term orientation of the salary and career development process means absolutely nothing anymore with the desire to fill all new jobs with external hires.

3 Execs instructed to retire to make room for outsiders.

Execs do not just retire at their own discretion due to RSU loss.

Were they PIP’d?

We do have execs that NSI.

It is very surprising to see executives who worked on LCS or Sustainability go on early retirement or resigned and join other company in "green" field.... it shows that they disagree with the direction the company is going or knows that plenty of it is just a lip service....the europeans executives definitely know that we are far left behind our european competitors...ever wonder the greenwashing ad is slowing down vs during the G7 summit ? :p

I would bet that this is not a regular retirement but rather a resignation like Milton before. DW cannot inspire even his selected few.

And what a choice for replacement! Like having Rex for Secretary of state!
How much lower?

3 outside senior exec hires shows DWW knows internal employee development is a sham! So many middle managers wondering if their ridiculous backstabbing and their endless hours of PowerPointing were worth it

So we’ve gone from pretending a Refinery guy can lead a green energy business to pretend a guy who led a never-worked self-driving car tech in Detroit (where innovation goes to die) is the man for the job??
What kind of bullsh!t fantasy land is this? Is DW peddling make believe to us too?
Who’s next? Rob-dog??

Whew, we’re gonna have a lot of upset VPs and senior managers. How many have sacrificed their lives for a chance at a President job.

Must suck to have dedicated 25 years to xom and then get skipped for an outside hire.

Third outside hire in an executive role. CFO, VP of IR, now LCS

Another outsider for a senior exec role (second after CFO). Is Xom executive ladder failing if outsiders climb to the top?

Odd move to put an individual in place for such a short term, can't imagine retirement was a surprise?

A bunch of clowns and liars in LCS. The only solution is employment in greenwashing for otherwise useless climbers.
It matters not who leads them, the result is just the same.
