Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Less respect from year to year

After more than 20 years in this company, I feel less respected than ever. I used to want to gain as much experience as possible but today that same experience is just a burden.
It's not that age discrimination hasn't been present before, but I think it's rampant now. How many times have you been treated unfairly because of your age?

UCR “Technology” is only slightly better than a monkey with a dart board: Perfect fit for all the millennials with one year of python and a geology degree from Cantfindmyass university.

Chevron's really "lucky" that most of the modern technology for UCR and AI/ML wasn't developed by the retired Boomers, so other than traditional exploration (which Chevron isn't doing any more, anyways), Chevron hasn't lost much. The downside is that virtually all of the modern technology was developed 'somewhere else' and by 'somebody else', so Chevron doesn't have any 'industry leading' staff. We put all our eggs in the diversity basket instead.

Plenty of times, by people saying that I can't possibly know how to do X because I'm too young and inexperienced. How tf am I supposed to learn or gain experience if they don't deal me in on those projects? Who knows.

This just reflects your age, as every generation pushes to advance by displacing the one before, stressing “new” ideas rather than evolutionary learning from those more senior. That said, this general trend as been accelerated by our “transformation”, and given the huge turnover the last few years of experienced experts I would be surprised if we have not lost key competencies. This deficit will likely only become clear as new asset development ramps up in the coming years following increased oil price (the bo-m that always comes after the bust in this industry). The great crew change happened, and no one left instructions how to use the coffee pot: It is an open question if machines can learn this.

That’s because the millennials just YouTube your knowledge and now they are experts. This is a generational thing they do something half Acced once and believe they are an SME. It’s exemplified by the D&I push and awarding jobs based off of talkers, color of skin and gender then qualifications.

Because of your age or the fact that you need help turning your computer on and sending an email?
