Not waiting for buyout

I hesitated a lot but in the end I accepted an offer that is not much better than what I have here. The reason is I don't want to stay here anymore. I wanted to leave as soon as possible.
There were also those who tried to persuade me to wait for the buyout. It’s amazing to me that there are still those who believe in buyout.

I did not wait for a buyout. and left after decades in R&D, building a unique skill set and a solid reputation both within and without the company. It’s a challenge starting in a new company after that duration of time at SAS, however in the current “great reset” climate, many seasoned tech workers are in demand and very much appreciated. SAS would not be in its current predicament if it was managed well from the top down. It took leaving to figure that out.

you were right to go.

funny how there hasn’t been a peep about the employees being the company’s greatest asset in MANY years. radio silence from so-called leaders during covid was the nail in the coffin.

Do not wait for change at SAS - it will not happen. I stayed there far too long. While I learned some valuable skills, other areas of my career suffered. There were certain things I needed in order to move forward. I would not receive them at SAS, regardless of how much I asked, how long I waited, or how much PR nonsense I consumed. While I have a great resume, my experience at SAS left me without the materials I need to continue my career. Most-likely, I'm not an isolated SAS case; I have to start over and rebuild.

Make the best choice for you, but understand that all the PR nonsense is just that - nonsense. Take what you need, and leave the rest.

All the people over 60 have already had two chances to take a buyout. Another buyout would not make sense unless they lower the age limit, and it's unpredictable whether that happens. Also, the economy's booming right now, so you can get a job, but in another year or two, that might not be true. You were wise not to wait.

Best wishes to you, and don't be like me! I spent so many years at SAS, it's hard not to look back and wish things were different. Go and have your career -- and don't look back!
