Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

All Company call

As I am listening the recording of the All Hands, I am losing the will to live.
If you replaced Teradata with Acme Inc, the platitudes would be equally applicable.
There isn't a single intrinsic assertion or utterance or value proposition to single out Teradata. Oh yes there is the Gartner #1 ranking in 4 of the workloads - makes me proud to work here. But apart from this _externally_ gathered piece of evidence, why does our ELT give the impression that they are just a odourless colourless tasteless teflon management squad landed atop a strongly differentiated company in terms of a very opinionated technology having made some history, which they cannot understand, appreciate and respect?
SM - usual team rallying jargon ridden army sarge-level pep talk, only without the gravitas;
CB - TBH did the job, trying to make the share repurchase as a definite plus... hmm shall see about that
MH - too new to judge
JW - name dropping but scant substance
KCC - usual BS with vaccine mandate on top to enter a TD office.

A few years ago I thought I had a clear (and quite perky) impression of what TD was. I'm now utterly confused.
SM ending the call with four focus areas, none of which are unique to TD, not even taken together.

ELT, thank you and bye-bye, me over and out!

At least ACME has dynamite leadership such as the Road Runner and Wiley E Coyote. TD can’t compete.

So did anyone else notice the deafening silence from NC and HA on the call? And no one asked questions related to them either...

Yeah - I got ya.

Santa Claus is real, the check is in the post, Jesus has risen (again, plus he really loves you) and the tooth fairy is leaving you 1,000s of RSUs under the pillow.

With so many unknowns why not flip the story to see the good?

  1. . Stock just jumped
  2. Less shares our in public makes them more valuable
  3. JW was a sales person and so knows the new material she has to produce must communicate value. Exactly what you are looking for right?
  4. KCC says you never have to go to an office and there are no mandatory mandates at TD. I don’t care to meet a customer in a corporate office. Heck customers don’t even go to their own corporate offices anymore so it’s a non issue…

Go interview. You’ll find some won’t even interview you unless you’re vaccinated. Or they are only in the cloud. Or they are not scaleable. Check it out.

But what about the cloud innovation and 1,000 nodes being tested ?

Surely that gives everyone a massive boost and hope for the future ?

When large, old conifers appear to survive a forest fire, they often don't actually survive. They're dead but don't know it. First sign of necrosis is at the very top, farthest from the sustaining production part of the organism.
