Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Awful company with many talented people still working here

Honestly, I would have left a long time ago if I had more skills. Since I don’t, it holds me back from finding something better. I wouldn't think twice about leaving.
That is why I am surprised to see how many talented people there are still in this company, top experts in their field.
Really people, what are you still doing here?

Fiserv claims to care about their employees, but you are just a number and it all boils down to the almighty dollar and their stock. Typical corporate greed. Frank has ruined the culture. There are ways to make profitable company and treat employees with respect.

Usual reasons include:

  1. job market for "top experts" (who are often seasoned, experienced people or even if not already commanding higher pay) is not as easy (fewer jobs available, ageism, higher salaries, and a glut of applicants from sinking ships)
  1. they are hoping ad willing to wait for a layoff and severance package to help them transition to a new job
  1. they are waiting for bonus season, however meager it might be, they don't want to miss it
  1. they are waiting for some other life event before moving into the unknown (kid finishing high school or college or some other milestone)
  1. they have golden handcuffs (some compensation packages at cr---y companies for top people would surprise you)
  1. they are for whatever reasons willing to coast for a while or have gotten used to be seen as the top expert in the lousy company even tho they know that in the rest of the world they really are no longer such

Those are just some

Here is a truism about employees in general: Some folks are A-types, who will move on at the next sparkly thing. Everyone else just wants to somewhat enjoy their job and their co-workers, learn a few new things now and then, and be paid a reasonable salary. That's it.
That's the magic. Most employees will put up with a lot of cr-p and things have to get pretty miserable before they'll even start looking.

It is like watching a train wreck. But you are inside the train. You can see the conductor not paying attention and has no idea what is about to happen to the train.

Some people might just have really good compensation packages keeping them here, possibly even as a result of them trying to leave in the past and receiving a strong counter-offer to stay. I know that sounds unlike Fiserv, but I have heard of this happening here - I assume it depends on the business unit, though, and how badly they want to retain the associate.

Ultimately, most people do have a price. If the company is willing to meet or exceed that price, then as long as the working conditions aren't unbearable, it's not surprising that those people would choose to stay. Either that, or they're just too lazy and unmotivated to leave something they know very well and move onto something new and unknown -- which, to be honest, I wouldn't judge them for.
