Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Sometimes I feel sorry for new hires

Throwing employees into the fire... I really don't know what to think about it. And Dell seems to be doing it constantly? I see young people who are very disappointed with the company right from the start because they were immediately assigned to work on challenging projects, even though these young people do not have even the slightest experience for such a thing. And what happens then? Tremendous pressure, stress, and eventually, burnout and resignation.

I was let go in Sept 2020. 55 and over 20 years service at the time, got a new job in no time. Better pay at at a much much better place. Worked out well for me, hope it does for others. Dell denies ageism but that's a bull sc-t. They hire new grads at a fraction of the cost, work them to burn out and do it again.

“ Dell Technologies is dedicated to attracting and developing people who identify as women, with the goal of achieving gender parity across our global operations. We want those who identify as women represented across all functions, especially in traditionally underrepresented technical positions and leadership roles. Our goal will help to ensure Dell Technologies is the employer of choice for all.”

Question :If it is the employer choice for all, why are they trying to exclude and not mentioning hiring people who identify as men ?

Yes, it is terrible experienced talented male employees are being kicked to the curb.

Worked for the company 20 years in January, informed job has been phased out and work moved offshore, 57 years old.
From what I found out 2 others in work group also informed the same, both with many years experience on was 60 and other 61 years old and all 3 are men.

It’s sad to watch… they treat the experienced employees like garbage til they quit or get laid off, and then fling complex projects that require years of experience at whatever unfortunate newbie fresh out of college is left. Then they get confused why the project isn’t getting done while the newbies quit after a year.
I tried to propose a buddy training system on my team to create a talent pipeline by making sure everyone was getting on the job training and got laughed at and was basically told to shut up. Good job, management.

Yeas and very unfortunately Dell has let many experienced (older) people go with the many employee reductions over the last few years.
With not many experienced people to mentor new young employees very difficult to learn the intricacies of the job(s)

Dell doesn’t believe experience matters. The company did not really have an enterprise level install base. Midrange,SMB, desktop computers and laptops were the focus. With cloud complexity and companies that have merged and become so much larger and complex is where experience matters.
