I know of several companies that have reduced their severance and used COVID-19 as a handy excuse. It's low and immoral in my opinion but it's been happening. Does anybody know if something similar happened or will soon happen at WD? Is there any way to find out?

Look, nobody owes you severance. It's only a decent company that even HAS a severance program in the first place. During uncertain times of course it could be reduced or eliminated. It's a huge liability when you're not sure what the future brings.
