Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Serious Question- Why is United Health so cheap and do they get away with it

Just spoke to a recruiter about a job that is maybe 30 K below market average. Is United really this cheap, if so how do they have so much profit? And what are the advantages of working at United versus other insurance carriers?

The cringest part of my annual review is listening while my supervisor ( that I respect and admire greatly) relays to me that I will get a 1% or God Forbid 2% pay raise. After all the things they put me through all year.

Telecommuting at UHC has been around long enough (11 years for me) that everyone has grown roots in their chairs and can't fathom going back to a real office. As a result, they know they can give miserable compensation and most folk will do nothing but complain. I've finally started to apply OUTSIDE the company and an so excited to leave this horrible company!

I really wanted to take a job at UHC but offer was 40% lower than competing option. No negotiation at all…. Red flag in this market.

My raise has dropped every year for 5 years, but I always get an exceeds expectations score. Last year I got a 1% raise. Haven’t had my eval yet this year.
Really disappointing but I won’t quit because I telecommute and love what I do

Former Manager… salaries are considerably under market value…merit is typically 2% and you will NEVER get a market adjustment.

Like the other reply, it's all smoke and mirrors. What are the advantages of working at other carriers versus UHC? NOT WORKING AT UHC.

I can tell you it’s their model to undercut salaries and get the cheapest employee as possible. When you get in the door there will never be above a 2% salary adjustment. Staff are leaving by handfuls knowing their negotiating power is at an all time high currently and jumping to competitors for a deserving benefit and salary package.
