Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

CVE on resume

I don’t know if it was just a joke, or are there really companies in Calgary that refuse to hire ex-CVE staff like someone wrote in one of the threads below? Has anyone really had such an experience?

This is the first time I've heard of it. I am having a hard time believing it.

CVE is not an issue in your resume. The issue is being in a Senior management position with only a high school diploma. We have plenty of those cases.

Here is a fun story while the topic shifted to toxic people. I no longer work for CVE (nor does my manager. Both laid off. It is what it is.) Our team was hiring for an engineering manager last year and he had a ton of resumes to look over. One was from a young-ish guy who we worked with at Cenovus who was a nightmare. Treated support staff, admin assistants, and others who he deemed below him like dirt. You know, one of these kids with no empathy who was born on third base and acts like he hit a triple. Boss didn't even read the resume after seeing the name. HR sent out a courtesy e-mail to him stating he was not a candidate and he then sent an e-mail to my boss calling him all sorts of names, and also sent an e-mail to our CEO telling him how terrible our leader was. The audacity of being rejected! My boss circulated the first e-mail within his network and he was subsequently rejected from other jobs in Calgary. Looking at his LinkedIn, he is still unemployed.

Don't be an @sshole. We still chuckle at the whole thing.

Back on topic... if you aren't a jerk, you should be fine. Our company has hired a few people from Cenovus and there haven't been any issues that I am aware of.

I've seen it happen at my new place of employment twice but it was due to the ex-CVE staff being toxic knuckleheads who would have ruined team dynamics and culture. I didn't see or hear of resumes being shredded unless that person had a reputation.

I will say that having CVE on the resume is not as prestigious as it once was so be humble

Not true. Lots of companies will hire CVE. CVE is known to be a toxic environment and company . The only downfall is the new employer knowing you will need big time therapy to get over your PTSD from CVE. If you’re a manager good luck. They will know you have done sweet f&@$ all at CVE

I wouldn't believe it, the person making those claims is likely the same people posting and replying to themselves about quitting after getting their bonus'. Some people's egos are so fragile that being laid off turns them into psychos.
