Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Is it the industry or is it just AIG?

AIG is unrecognizable compared to when I first started working here. The industry is also changing a lot. I am no longer sure which bad things that are happening here should be attributed to the industry in general, and which to AIG alone? I know that my friends in some competing companies also have similar problems as we do here.

Yes we will not get raises until later I. The year of at all. Only those deemed risk of leaving will get anything material. So those over 50, you are in this group.
Technology is pretty close to imploding. Only one in six workers are FTEs, and heard budgets are being cut which means more layoffs later this year.
Have fun!

It is both AIG and the industry. AIG just amplifies the reality of a changing industry for most of its employees by only focusing on stock price, dividends and stock buy backs instead of investing in their staff and culture.

If you are not one of the privileged few execs who are able to participate in LTI or stock options, then the quarterly reports are meaningless. Nepotism and elitism run the company from the top down. This creates a fragmented workforce.

Your CEO can broadcast how much the bottom line has improved and how much value is being brought to shareholders with increased dividends and billion dollar stock buy backs. He continues to collect his $20,000,000 a year, but tells the average employee they will have to wait and see if AIG may or may not give them a few percent raise sometime later in the year. Well folks that's when you know you mean absolutely zero to this company. As a matter of fact, you leaving cuts expenses and raises the stock price even more so your leaving is actually encouraged.

But keep up the hard work, the executive team needs their bonuses this year. There are new mansions to build on the backs of all of you.
