The air is thick, but I still don't hear any rumors about the next round of layoffs. Either this means that for some time to come there will be no big layoffs, but only sporadic ones, or no one still has any more reliable info?

Old GE layoffs and either forced retirement or early outs was big! New GE let them leave on their own. Saves costs and helps with man power issues. Don’t forget we will be someone else’s problem once we split. Why rattle cages before !
Lots of skilled engineers and designers let go. Can you say buh-bye?
