Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is hiring based on talent anymore?

I don't mean to offend anyone, nor do I think I am the most knowledgeable and skilled employee here. However, I was really shocked at how little skill the new young colleagues have. I don’t think such employees could get a job here before. Did Verizon have to lower its criteria so much when hiring?

The poisonous fruit of CRT training is sprouting quickly at VZ. What a terrible use of shareholder resources.

Hiring is based exclusively on 'check the box' wokeness. I have watched more directors and vps shoehorned into spots that blew the peter principle into the next century.

D-mb as a bag of rocks but was also a d-mb as a bag of rocks vp somewhere else in some other industry: check the box on race, check the box on s-x, check the box on national heritage - and if you get a hat trick, you get a VP slot!

Welcome to 2.0

It must be nice having a job handed to you based on political policies. Imagine having it so easy you really don’t have to work for anything. Yea, this is you. Real skilled people aren’t working for corporations. Real talent and skilled people are creating jobs through entrepreneurship. This is why people leave Verizon. This is why Verizon has become a shot ho-e to work at.

You get hired if you’re fat and lazy. No skill or talent is actually needed. Just play your card and have things handed to you through the equity act. Yes, the equity act is happening in corporate America. Don’t act like it isn’t either. People are being handed jobs based on political agendas. Not based on skills or talent.

Hiring in many large corporate companies isn’t about talent or skill. It’s about doing what you’re told and whatever political movement is currently happening in the country. Women in business and equal rights is a huge political movement, hence the reason you see so many being promoted before they are ready. Stakeholders don’t care about the people that work for Verizon. They only care about money. You don’t work for Verizon. You work for the stakeholders that tell Hans what to do. Hans is just a puppet. Hans has no talent or vision. He is just willing to do whatever he is told to collect his millions. It’s how the game has been played for a very long time. This is why the previous CEO can stay on as a silent advisor or whatever you want to call it and continue to get paid without doing any work. Right now America is pushing equity so this is what large corporations are doing internally. Instead of people earning what they get in America, these days everyone gets equity or in another term “everyone gets a trophy”. If you have a card to play then play it. If you aren’t playing your card then you clearly don’t see what is being handed to you right now. You don’t have to have talent or real skills anymore. Just pay attention to politics and capitalize on what is literally being handed to you.

@5rfg, I can't imagine it.
But, then again, both my parents were there and involved throughout my life. They always encouraged me. When I saw a Jackie Chan movie and wanted to try martial arts, they didn't tell me I couldn't because I wasn't Chinese, they got me into classes at the community center. It was like that my whole life. I can't imagine having one parent who tells you you'll always fail due to your race.

Imagine being racist and disgruntled and not getting promoted, then blaming everyone around you for your problems rather then realizing you aren't as great as you think you are.

VZ needs to return to being a meritocracy.
If we're trying to promote a particular demographic, we need to expand into relevant fields so we can accomplish this.
I propose a VZ franchise in the NBA and NFL... Starting up a VZ recording label... open a chain of medical THC/CBD dispensaries (in states where it's legal, of course). We can cater to the demographics skills and promote them within the appropriate silos.
If we make this shift we can all thrive and contribute to VZs growth and success. Pride,, morale and productivity will increase

Just be diverse with a bachelors and try to connect with somebody already working at VZ. Should be a shoe-in job.

When hiring talent you focus on two factors: pay and demand. High demand with low pay impacts your ability to hire the best talent. So instead you will get low quality hires.

in my talented diverse workgroup we don't talk about others based on race. we talk about others based on their lack of common sense, knowledge of the position they were hired for and how they are able to keep their job while dragging the group down.

It's absolutely disgusting the obvious and blatant racism that just oozes out of this board. Besides barely understanding anyone's reply to posts, the lack of tact here is just breath taking.
