Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

I wilI leave because of block scheduling

I've had enough. Why does Sam's think block scheduling is a good idea?

@fqje+1g5NzZ3a,
managers can still adjust the schedule to suit business needs. our club always had 3 opening cutters & a wrapper. usually 2 wrappers close on the busiest nights.

It is failing the meat department at my club. My managers used to be able to exercise the freedom to accommodate the business needs by scheduling mids to help assist opening processes. At my club, the most bodies get assigned to the closing shift. How does one expect two senior meat cutters to put away an 11 pallet truck, run rotisserie, prep counter, and process meat to opening expectations and then have to adhere to Ecolab inspection expectations on the day after Easter? And then for closing 3 more people show up and we could have used 1-2 of them hours ago! It's a massacre every day.

the block schedule is good for most associates. they usually have their off days back to back & can plan ahead for activities away from work. If you're 4 am-12:30, you only have to deal with customers 4 hours a day! On sunday, you only deal with those animals for 2 hours!
as a former fresh lead, the ones getting the shaft are the fresh leads. Close two nights a week then come back to open after many of their closing shifts. Only get consecutive days off 1 time a month.
they pay for that 3 day weekend when they get back because their depts are usually shot.
the fresh lead rotation screws with their sleep pattern & will wear a person down.
I wised up, stepped down, & took a merch position at another club. Sure, I took a paycut but am better off. Less stress, better rest....... i started doing lawn service in the afternoon for a few hours each day. Yeah I have to work more than 8 hours a day now. But I make more money & am not nearly as worn out.

I think most of you here are on blocked morning shifts. I’m not in block but I hear the pm block is he-l because you have no time with your family. If you have children there’s no family dinners together at night. God forbid you need a day off Other then your set days, then you’re losing pay.

Block scheduling is good. At least we have an opportunity to plan our lives. And not have favoritism rule scheduling.

I mean… it’s retail. You should know what you’re signing up for. I don’t miss clopens. I enjoy having a regular sleeping schedule. I’ll keep the block schedule. At least they don’t make us shift bid every few months or you get forced to a different shift. I worked at a call center that did that.

Post from TheLayoff.com

$3 more equates to almost $500 more per month. Not opening the club at 4am. Not closing it down at 12am or later. Not carrying a key to the building. Not sure if that $3 more is justified.

Our fresh leads typically just hang out with each other and avoid helping in their areas, and get paid more to just chill all day.

Oh wow fresh leads are only compensated $3 more than other leads but they are production areas not just pushing pallets around or running registers

Fresh leads are also compensated more in pay.

I like block scheduling. Nice to go in same time every day. Have same two days off.

So block scheduling pretty much favors 20% of the associates and phucks over the remaining 80%. Sounds about right...

Not trying to be cruel, but you chose retail. Retail will f up your family life.

If you wanted to be with your family, you should have chosen a spouse who could support a stay-at-home parent or got a job that revolved around family, like being a school teacher.

Left after 16 years with the company. Blocked schedule is a joke there is no family time, 4 am you have to go to bed by 7:00, NO family time and 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm hope you don't have any kids in school, oh because you will never see them. GREAT FAMILY TIME. WAKE up walmart !!

Block scheduling was meant to help with the justification of giving 800k to create the new scheduling system that was supposed to replace SMART and a older system.

The new scheduling system failed because it was designed around only a few clubs at tier 3 and did not take into account low volume or tier 1 or 2 clubs.

Block scheduling would allow full time associates to have a steady schedule and managers could use the existing scheduler to place part time associates during the high coverage hours. Thus this was meant to keep percentages and maximize payroll and control overtime.

Or in other words the company did a band aid fix for associates who were complaining about not being able to spend time with family.

I've been with Sam's for over 14 years. I love the block because now I open everyday. Before they played favorites and I closed a lot. I pray it never changes.
