I’m getting ready to take another offer to work remote. I actually like my job at Wells so I’m a little sad about it. I know this is wishful thinking but they won’t make an exception when you’re ready to walk- will they?

Are you so sure about that ? My replacement will cost at least 30% more. Plus the cost of recruitment, training. Unless all our jobs are going to India, which I would say is a risky move considering they might end up sanctioned.
Once you let your manager know you are seriously interviewing and looking to leave, that’s the end for you here. Savvy people know that you only make it known you are leaving once you have accepted another offer from the other company ( and you have an offer in writing) from that company. Cannot imagine trying to bargain with the lame management here. Big mistake. They will make you miserable if you stay.
OP, I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. Really loved my job at WFC but not the RTO. I applied to multiple fully remote positions and got multiple offers. I selected the one with highest offer and actually promoted myself. My then manager at WFC was shocked when I called him and I hinted that "if only" I could be converted to fully remote. He did not bother to escallate it to the higher ups, he said "it is what it is."
I have enjoyed looking at these boards with so many people squirming about the RTO. I on the other hand, have started to love my new job, fully remote, and a real bump up in comp. My advice: Just do it.
It would only buy you 4-6 months because it takes that long to post a single opening
I’m not understanding why team members, I mean oops, “employees” (because Charles called them a cult) still believe this scandalous bank cares about people, even ones who have built careers here and moved to locations in order to continue working at this bank. Wake up. If you get an offer outside Wells you better take it!! Charley cult Scharf is cutting jobs and any of you may be next. Stop thinking the bank cares about you because it doesn’t. There’s lots of opportunities elsewhere. The more highly skilled employees leave the better. All that’ll be left is a skeleton of a bank run by “dead wood” or mo--ns. Wake up people. Your careers are over there.
LOL you have an unhealthy positivity towards Wells thinking it cares enough you are quitting and wondering if they will offer you remote. After Wells fires everyone on the workforce share fiasco and gets rid of service managers this year they still won’t care you quit and have no intention of offering you WFH. Get out while you can. The bank is doomed.
Never take a counter offer!! They didn't make the effort when you were there and asked, and any counter is just for their benefit, not yours!
Those of us who have remote exceptions have already been granted them. Just jump ship. Too little, too late. If they cared, you wouldn't have to beg.

You could say "Is there anything you can do that would make me stay, like full remote?" they will probably say no, to which you can say "Well, I am taking another job then. Just wanted to give you the opportunity to keep me, so I will be sharing this in my exit interview" haha.. Oh well I guess! In either case, good luck. Go where you can be happy. Family comes first, always was an attractive feature of Wells-- the work-life balance. Now it's not. Welcome to the 1980's again haha!
If they counter, they're actually only buying themselves time to replace you at their own pace.
OP here, I think it is probably going to be a better job. I really did enjoy my role here though except for the RTO. It’s a big enough problem for my family that I’m leaving over it though.

I’m in the same situation. It’s so very maddening that a few pompous id10ts at the top are making a lot of us miserable. I’m not even asking to work from home. I just want to go to my old office. Perhaps they will clue in once enough good people leave. I just can’t wait that long.
Nope. Everyone’s replaceable. Having you leave with a new job is better for the bottom line.
