Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

2022 predictions

  1. ) Recession will hit and\or interest rates will climb. Businesses will be strapped for cash, benefits, etc… general layoffs will ensue. Citi Management will leverage the tough times to crack the whip even harder. Repeating the common phrases of “jobs are hard to find. Just be glad you have one.” Often reminding people that “there are plenty out there to take your place”. Touting that work life balance is important on team meetings all the while handing out tons of work with aggressive deadlines, knowing that it erases the sentiment of having a “work life balance”.
  1. ) There will be a reduction in company benefits.
  2. ) We will continue to see business shrinkage.
  3. ) Creative measures will be taken to drive people off so as to avoid an official layoff to keep from paying out severance.
  4. ) They will try to merge groups under one umbrella all the while try to keep everyone silo’d…but under one management….but separate…but the same…
  5. ) ESG will continued to be a push for Citi while it will slowly ebb for the rest of the world.

This will cause a ruckus I’m sure but I’ll just tell you anyway….

I’ve got a long time friend who’s g-y and works for a completely different company in a completely different sector. The company he works for, no I’ll not say the name, is also pushing the ESG initiative really hard. So much in fact that its all that’s talked about and nothing else. My bud asked the all to familiar question that’s often asked on this board. In short

“ESG great, awesome, shoulda done it sooner…..ESG aside, what are your plans to increase revenue and bring in the bucks. The question is asked as all we’ve seen is ESG but nothing else. ESG in itself will not raise the stock price or raise revenue, so what else is in the pipeline”.

They tapped danced around the question with nothing really conveyed around the subject. He then made the statement to them that “another sad part is that me being g-y gives me a free pass on asking such a question publicly. If I was not g-y, I’d be fired for asking the same question”.

While true, I myself was not there to witness it, I believe him. When it comes to business he’s a no nonsense “bottom line” kinda guy. Then again, I didn’t have to be there as I’m living it now.
