EMC never sold HDS.
HP rebranded HDS UPS TagmaStor's on their high end 7K Series arrays.

About 20 years ago EMC started selling Clariion storage arrays as well as Symmetrix. Clariion originated from Data General - so perhaps the person who mentioned HDS was confused with DG? In the 20 odd years I was at EMC and latterly Dell, HDS was a competitor and most definitely not rebadged as EMC kit.

Symmetrix DMX destroyed the competition, not really. When EMC was pushing hard for me to buy one over HDS product the EMC people were saying they are the best and I should use the EMC gear because of it. Then a week later EMC was pushing a HDS product rebranded as EMC. I told the two EMC sales leads to get the Fu-k out of my office and never come back, conceited asshoes they were
